WHAT IS SOLUTION-FOCUSED THERAPY?

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

(also known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy – SFBT)

Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a collaborative, goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on strengths, resources, and future possibilities rather than analysing problems from the past.

It is based on the belief that every person already has the inner resources and abilities needed to create meaningful change. The therapist’s role is to help clients recognise these strengths and support them in finding solutions that fit their unique circumstances and goals.

about SFT

How does Solution-Focused Therapy work?

The therapeutic process is based on:

Focusing on the present and the future
Looking for solutions rather than analysing problems
Building on existing strengths and resources
Working towards clear, meaningful goals defined by the client

Solution-Focused Therapy does not rely on predetermined answers or one-size-fits-all approaches. Every person is unique, and solutions are developed collaboratively, based on each client’s individual needs, values, and strengths.

ABOUT SFT

The Therapeutic Relationship

At the heart of Solution-Focused Therapy is a collaborative conversation between therapist and client.

This relationship is built on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to change.

You decide what you want to achieve, while my role is to support, encourage, and help you discover the strengths and resources that will move you towards your goals.

ABOUT SFT

What Does the Process Look Like?

Building on Your Strengths

We focus on the strengths, skills, and resources you already have, using them as the foundation for meaningful and lasting change.

Small, Achievable Steps

Change becomes more manageable when it happens one step at a time. Together, we identify realistic actions that fit naturally into your everyday life.

Developing a Sense of Agency

Solution-Focused Therapy helps you strengthen your confidence, recognise your ability to influence your own life, and make decisions that support your wellbeing.

A Personalised Approach

Every person is different. Each session is tailored to your individual goals, needs, strengths, and circumstances.

In Solution-Focused Therapy, a diagnosis is not the central focus. What matters most is your willingness to move forward and build on what is already working.

By taking small, practical steps, change becomes achievable, sustainable, and meaningful.
